The Spread Strategy: Covering More Ground for Greater Kingdom Impact

In the world of football, the spread offense is a game-changer. It works by stretching the defense beyond its natural limits, forcing every defender to cover more space and make split-second decisions. When the offense spreads out, space increases, pressure builds, and mistakes are exposed.

According to Doc Murphy in The Spread Strategy, this is more than just a sports tactic—it is the primary blueprint for the Kingdom of God. Jesus never intended for His movement to be confined to a single building; His model was always about movement, expansion, and spreading.

Shifting from Accumulation to Distribution

For too long, modern ministry has measured success by how many people gather in one location. The Spread Strategy challenges this, shifting the focus from centralization to distribution.

The "greater works" Jesus promised in John 14:12 are not about "greater power," but greater scope. While Jesus was physically limited to one location at a time, the Church—empowered by the Holy Spirit—can be everywhere at once. Success isn't measured by how full a room is, but by how many people are matured and sent out to start something new.

Small is the Strategy

One of the most radical concepts in this strategy is that small is not a limitation—it is the strategy itself. Human beings are naturally limited in the number of meaningful relationships they can maintain, a concept known as "Dunbar’s Number," which suggests we can only truly connect with about 20 to 30 people at a time.

By keeping congregations small (20–30 people), the movement remains:

• Relational: People are truly known and cared for.

• Reproducible: It is easy to start a new group in a home, coffee shop, or storefront.

• Lean: It avoids the "heavy overhead" of expensive buildings that slow down movement.

When you multiply 30 people across 20,000 locations, you reach 600,000 disciples—a massive movement that can transform a nation.

The Game Plan: Offense, Defense, and Special Teams

To win the "MEGAbowl" of Kingdom impact, we must run the full playbook:

• The Offense (The Go Route): We must move with intentionality—Go, Connect, Share, and Send. We don’t wait for people to come to us; we reach them where they are.

• The Defense (Protect the Win): A "Strong Safety" mindset is required to guard the culture and mission. This means staying alert through prayer and the Word to ensure the enemy doesn't plant distractions or wrong definitions of success.

• Special Teams (Strategic Assignments): These are the creative outreaches, business ventures, and media platforms that shift the atmosphere of an entire region. Like a blocked punt or a kickoff return, "special teams" create sudden momentum shifts in society.

  
  

The Rabbit Strategy

The Kingdom of God was designed to multiply like rabbits, not grow like elephants. While elephants take years to produce a single calf, rabbits multiply rapidly and consistently. This exponential growth is what we see in the book of Acts, where the church spread from house to house and city to city.

A Call to Kingdom Ambition

The Spread Strategy requires godly ambition—a strong desire to achieve meaningful goals for God. Unlike "selfish ambition," which seeks personal position, godly ambition is purpose-driven and Spirit-led.

We don’t need more spectators; we need laborers who will go. Whether you are in a boardroom, a gym, or a neighborhood, you are called to be an ambassador.

The goal is simple: Multiply. Expand. Grow. Amplify. Because when the people of God are everywhere, the Kingdom advances at a pace that darkness cannot keep up with.
